Klement Antonín Zahrádka (born January 10, 1786 in Brüx , † June 17, 1853 in Osek ) was abbot of the Ossegg monastery in Bohemia.

Life

Clemens Anton Zahradka attended grammar school in Brüx and graduated in philosophy in Prague. In 1805 he entered the Ossegg Monastery, took his religious vows in 1808 and was ordained a priest in 1809 after studying theology in Prague. From 1810 to 1815 he was lecturer of Bible studies at the theological home school , at the same time librarian and inspector of the natural history cabinet, from 1812 also sub-priority. In 1816 he started teaching at the Komotau grammar school and in 1824 became its provisional prefect. In 1825 he was called back to the monastery as provisional, in 1835 he came to the monastery of St. Marienstern in Lusatia as provost . On May 10, 1843 he was elected abbot and in the same year as visitor and vicar general in Bohemia. Charles University in Prague awarded him an honorary doctorate on the occasion of its anniversary in 1848.

Between 1844 and 1847 he built the Clemens Hospital, and in 1844 reintroduced in-house theological studies, which, however, were given up again in 1849. In 1849 he took over the Komotau high school. It is thanks to his prudence that the two women's monasteries in Lausitz, St. Marienstern and St. Marienthal , were preserved for the order. He died on June 17, 1853.
