The Daimler L20 is a light sports and training aircraft produced by the German manufacturer Daimler-Motoren-Gesellschaft .
history
The Daimler L20 is an aircraft created between 1923 and 1924 by the designer Hanns Klemm . For the design, Klemm was able to secure the support of Martin Schrenk from the Stuttgart Aviation Technical Association . In addition, he was able to persuade Ferdinand Porsche to design the appropriate Daimler F 7502 aircraft engine. After the first flight of the prototypes D-608 (equipped with floats) and D-609, it was slightly improved for series production and renamed the L 20B. The aircraft achieved some records and spectacular flights. In 1928 Ernst Udet landed on the Zugspitz massif with the D-1122 and Friedrich Karl von Koenig-Warthausen set a flight world record with the D-1433 Kamerad (in the USA Huenefeld ) with a non-stop flight from Berlin to Moscow and then became the first solo flier in 1928 / 1929 the world. Despite the good sales success, Daimler stopped producing aircraft after the merger to form Daimler-Benz AG, and so Klemm continued to manufacture the machine under his own name as the Klemm L20 from 1927 . In 1927 it was further developed into the L25 . A total of at least 58 pieces were built in different versions, which differed mainly in the engine used.
construction
The Daimler L20 is a low- wing aircraft made of wood with a square fuselage cross-section and fabric covering. The wings and elevators could be folded in for road transport. An air-cooled two-cylinder boxer engine with an output of 16 kW was used to drive the propeller via the same planetary gear as in the L15 .
