The cliff honey bee ( Apis laboriosa ), also known as the rock bee , is the largest of the nine types of honey bees in the world at up to 3 cm . Many scientists classify it as Apis dorsata laboriosa as well as a subspecies of the giant honey bee .

Apis laboriosa builds a single, approx. 80 cm wide and 1 m long unprotected honeycomb , hung on steep rocks. Systematics

The taxonomic integration of the cliff honey bee is difficult and controversial between different scientists. According to a fundamental publication by Michael S. Engel (1999), the cliff honey bee is not an independent species, but only a subspecies (breed) of the giant honey bee ( Apis dorsata ). Nevertheless, the previous Latin name Apis laboriosa and not Apis dorsata laboriosa is still used in many recent publications . In addition, z. B.
