The climate protection and energy efficiency group of the German economy e. V. is an amalgamation of German companies that show exemplary examples for optimizing the use of energy and for climate protection .

The group was initiated in 2009 by the Partnership for Climate Protection, Energy Efficiency and Innovation, a joint project between the Federal Environment Ministry , the Federal Ministry of Economics (BMWi) and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce , which was funded by the National Climate Protection Initiative. The aim of the project was to bring companies together in an initiative that are role models for the economy through special climate protection services.

Since 2013 there has been “Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e. V. ". This is designed across industries. In this way, the knowledge about climate protection and energy efficiency measures of various companies of different sizes should be bundled and carried across the economy.

Managing directors, energy and environmental experts as well as the public relations departments of the member companies participate directly in the association's activities. The board consists of three people: Jörg Schmidt (chairman), Markus Mettler and Annika Trappmann. The association's office is in Potsdam . Wolfgang Saam has been the association's managing director since 2013.

aims

The aim is to support commercial enterprises in their efforts to protect the climate . Concrete climate protection projects in companies are to be triggered by disseminating concrete best practice examples , instruments and implementation measures with high CO 2 savings.

Application process

As initiators, the BMUB , BMWi and DIHK recognized the climate protection companies as role models with the presentation of the certificate. They welcomed the commitment of the climate protection companies and accompanied the work of the association “Klimaschutz-Unternehmen e. V. ".

Companies can become members which, after a scientific examination, receive a positive recommendation from the advisory board in which the Federal Environment Ministry, the Federal Ministry of Economics and the German Chamber of Industry and Commerce are represented. Jens Hesselbach, professor for environmentally friendly product and process optimization at the University of Kassel , has been the chairman of the advisory board since 2014 . Other representatives on the advisory board are specialist institutions such as the German Energy Agency , WWF , the Institute for Resource Efficiency and Energy Strategies, the Berlin Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and experts from member companies.

Every climate protection company has demonstrated its achievements in the areas of climate protection and energy efficiency and meets the requirements of the Excellence Initiative .

activities

The main purpose is to represent the interests of its members in terms of climate policy and to disseminate best practices in the economy . The association maintains close contact with federal ministries as well as associations, research institutions and commercial enterprises. An important goal of the association is to sustainably and positively promote awareness of climate protection and energy efficiency measures for commercial enterprises.
