Klimontów is a city in the Powiat Sandomierski of the Świętokrzyskie Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the town-and-country municipality of the same name with 8036 inhabitants (as of June 30, 2019).
history
Towards the middle of the 14th century, the village of Klimontów was founded, which was located in the area of today's village of Górki . Nearby, Jan Zbigniew Ossoliński founded the town of Klimontów in 1604, although the village of the same name ceased to exist. In 1611, the city was granted the privilege of holding annual fairs three times a year. In 1613. a Dominican monastery was founded in Klimontów, while the collegiate church was built in 1643–1646.
In 1663, Klimontów had 24 houses and 530 inhabitants (including 129 Jews ). In 1827 the number of residents grew to 1,314 and the number of houses to 118. In the second half of the 18th century, a cloth factory was established .
In 1870 the city rights were withdrawn and reassigned on January 1, 2020.
