history

Friedrich Klingenthal (1803–1869), a Jewish smoothymaker and blueprint printer , came to Salzkotten from Bruchhausen near Höxter in 1833 . His son Ferdinand Klingenthal (1846–1914), who was also a finisher and blue printer, founded the retail trade in Salzkotten in 1874 .

In 1911 the third generation, Franz Klingenthal (1880–1955), took over the company. In 1914 he founded the company "Klingenthal und Co", later the "Westfälische Textilgesellschaft Klingenthal und Co"; In 1928 he opened the department store in Paderborn and in 1937 the one in Herford. Franz Klingenthal, who was also active in local politics for many years, received honorary citizenship of the city of Salzkotten on October 20, 1953 and the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon on December 3 of the same year .

The fourth generation is made up of Ferdinand (1909–1992), Franz (1912–1945) and Felix Klingenthal (1919–2002). Since Franz Klingenthal, managing director of the Herford company, was reported missing at the end of the Second World War , Ferdinand and Felix took over the reconstruction in the post-war period from 1945 onwards. In 1958 they opened the new textile department store at the current location in Salzkotten. She was also responsible for the further development of the WTG and in 1961 the establishment of the mini-price shops . In 1969 you are co-founders of the Südring Center Paderborn.

Felix Klingenthal, who was active in local politics like his father Franz, was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on ribbon in December 1974 and became an honorary citizen of the city of Salzkotten on March 27, 1995, after receiving the Salzkotten ring of honor on October 10, 1980. In 1995 he was the first non-Austrian to be awarded the honorary title of "Citizen of Seefeld ", the partner municipality of Salzkotten in Tyrol .

In the fifth generation, Ferdinand (born 1951) and Friedrich Klingenthal (born 1953) carry on the responsibility of their ancestors. In 1989 they opened the textile store in Gütersloh, the Südring Center in Paderborn was modernized and expanded, and the mini-price shops expanded. In 1994/1995 they modernize and expand the textile houses in Paderborn and Herford.

On July 1, 2013, Klingenthal handed over the mini-price stores to Bünting .

In the "Shopping Center Performance Report 2016", the Südring Center was voted the most successful German shopping center in a survey among tenants.
