The Wahrendorff Clinic is a specialist psychiatric and psychotherapeutic hospital . The head office is in Sehnde in the district of Ilten . The hospital has the departments General Psychiatry , Addiction Medicine , Geriatric Psychiatry and Psychosomatic Medicine with a focus on trauma and psychotherapy . It is privately owned.

history

The facility was founded in 1862 by the general practitioner Ferdinand Wahrendorff as an asylum for the mentally ill. His first patient was admitted there on June 24, 1862. The institute was initially continued and expanded as a family business by his son, the psychiatrist Rudolf Wahrendorff . In the post-war period, Hans-Werner Janz was the first medical director after Hans Willige when he took over the management on October 1, 1948. He made the "Wahrendorff Hospital" into a modern specialist hospital for psychiatry and neurology. Today it is one of the largest of its kind in Europe. In 1990 the Munich-based Riefler Klinik KG took over the business. In 1993, the neurologist, psychiatrist and specialist in anesthesia Matthias Wilkening took over responsibility for the clinic.

Acute clinical area

In Ilten there are 229 fully inpatient treatment places available. The day clinics in Hanover , Celle , Ilten and Lehrte have 93 day clinic treatment places.

Day clinic for men

The 1st German Men's Health Report by the Men's Health Foundation (2010) came to the conclusion that, in men, mental illnesses such as depression or burnout lead to early retirement. In men, psychological problems can express themselves differently than in women, for example, in depression, stress symptoms such as aggressiveness can mask the classic depressive symptoms. Specific treatment programs for men were not available. That was the reason for the establishment of the day clinic for men in 2011.

Home and long-term use

Around 950 clients live here in larger and smaller units. They suffer from chronic disabilities as a result of serious mental illnesses or long-term addictions. The nursing homes now consist of small, independent home and living areas. The clients are offered opportunities to find their way back to a balanced daily routine. The offer is divided into the internal day structure for people with mental disabilities and the day care center with its program for people with mental disabilities. Offers include landscaping, visual and performing arts groups, games such as B. chess, bingo and skat as well as commercial and manual occupational therapy. Some of the clients are also integrated into facility management, event service, administration and the kitchen.

Outpatient services

The ambulatory services, founded in 2003, are intended to close the supply gap between inpatient stays and independent living. The aim of outpatient psychiatric care (assisted outpatient living) is to avoid or shorten hospital stays for clients and to support them in leading an independent life in their living environment. The mentally ill people are accompanied in their everyday life and supported in structuring their day and expanding their social contacts. Outpatient psychiatric care is an integration assistance measure that is largely financed by the social welfare agency. The psychiatric home nursing service cares for mentally ill people at home immediately after an inpatient stay in a hospital for a short period of time.

Psychiatric Institute Outpatient Clinics (PIA)

The treatment offered by the Institute's Psychiatric Outpatient Clinic is aimed at mentally ill people who, due to the nature, severity or duration of their illness, are dependent on outpatient care under medical supervision. Often these are clients who would not visit a resident specialist due to illness.

Transcultural center

The transcultural center for psychiatry and psychotherapy established in December 2008 offers therapy options for people with mental crises who have a migration background. A special feature of the concept is the offer by a multilingual team of doctors, psychologists, therapists, social service employees and nursing staff.
