Ferdinand Wahrendorff
Ferdinand Wahrendorff (born February 20, 1826 in Diepenau , † March 21, 1898 in Ilten ) was a German country doctor and founder of a clinic.
Life
Wahrendorff studied medicine at the Georg August University and became active in the Corps Saxonia Göttingen in 1846 . It granted him honorary membership when it was deactivated . Wahrendorff became a country doctor and in 1862 founded an asylum for the mentally ill in Ilten near Hanover, which began operations in June 1862. From 1868 he was director and sole owner. He was given the character of a Prussian medical council . His son, the psychiatrist Rudolf Wahrendorff , succeeded him as head of the Ilten Sanatorium in 1898. The facility developed into the Wahrendorff Clinic and is now one of the largest of its kind in Europe. His monument with a portrait bust was created in 1902 by the sculptor Roland Engelhard .
