The Beaupré Monastery (Bellum pratum) - not to be confused with the Beaupré Monastery in Picardy and the Beaupré nunneries in Flanders and Beaupré-sur-la-Lys - is a former Cistercian abbey in the municipality of Moncel-lès-Lunéville in the Meurthe department. et-Moselle , Grand Est region , in France . It is located around 5 km southeast of Lunéville .

history

The monastery, also used as a ducal tomb, was founded in 1130 by Folmar von Lunéville and his wife Mathilde von Dabo in a meadow-rich area near the Meurthe River . As a subsidiary of Morimond Monastery, it belonged to its filiation . It gained some wealth through endowments from the area landlords . The monastery has developed numerous granges as Bétaigne, Champel, Les Aboues, Relécourt, Doncourt, Boleu, Borville, Martin Bois, les Bordes, Einvaux, Bezange, Froide-Fontaine and completely disappeared Olzée, la Fontaine and mat Court. The monastery, looted several times in the 16th and 17th centuries, finally fell into Kommende and in 1710 adopted the reform of the Orval monastery . During the French Revolution , the monastery was closed in 1790. In 1796 a fire caused great damage.

Buildings and plant

The monastery was rebuilt in the 18th century. The gatehouse and the vaulted hospital in a homestead have been preserved, along with remains of the walls of the monastery complex. The organ found its way into the parish church of Vézelise .
