Chalivoy monastery

The Bourras Monastery (Bonus radius) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Saint-Malo-en-Donziois in the Nièvre department , Bourgogne-Franche-Comté region , in France . It was about 26 kilometers northeast of La Charité-sur-Loire on a tributary of the Nièvre de Champlemy.

history

The monastery was founded in 1119 on a donation from Hugues de Thil, Lord of Champlemy, and his wife Alix de Montenoison as the first subsidiary of the Primary Abbey of Pontigny Monastery (in the same year that Cadouin Abbey submitted to him). It became the burial place of various lords of Montenoison. At the end of the Middle Ages, the monastery fell into Kommende . During the Wars of Religion, the abbey was set on fire in 1568 by the troops of Wolfgang von Pfalz-Zweibrücken . In 1790 the abbey only had three monks. It came to an end in the French Revolution in 1791.

Buildings and plant

The abbot's house, which has been converted into a large manor, and the farm have been preserved. Three arcades of the cloister were set up near the manor house. The bases and capitals of the nave pillars of the church have been found again. The choir lattice of the abbey church ended up in the parish church of Varzy.
