The Buillon Monastery (Bullio; Billon) is a former Cistercian abbey in the Doubs department , Franche-Comté region , in France . The monastery is located in the municipality of Chenecey-Buillon around 18 km south of Besançon , on the banks of the Loue river .
history
The monastery was founded in 1147 on the basis of donations from the Lords of Chenecey as a subsidiary of the Balerne Monastery and thus belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . The monastery was called Bullio paupere because of its poverty. It had seven grangia , including Sainte-Anne et Migette not far from the source of the Lison, Aglans and Scay near Mamirolle, Cymorin in Malans and Courcelles and a cellar in Montigny. The monastery was closed in 1536 (according to other sources it existed until the French Revolution ).
Buildings and plant
Remains of the church are preserved in an agricultural property, the apse of which was closed by three arched windows and a rose window above (both preserved). Glazed tiles have found their way into the Musée des Beaux-Arts in Besançon .
