The Chéry Monastery (Chéhéry, Caherium) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Chatel-Chéhéry in the Arrondissement of Vouziers in the Ardennes department , Grand Est region , in France . It is located around 30 km south-east of Vouziers in the Aire valley on the edge of the Argonne Forest .
history
The monastery was founded in 1147 (according to local information already in 1144) by the monastery La Chalade and thus belonged to the filiation of the primary abbey of Clairvaux . In 1750 it was rebuilt by the architect Nicolas Joseph. In 1791 it was dissolved in the French Revolution.
Buildings and plant
The existing two-story building made of brick and stone with a pronounced central projection is an example of the elegant construction of the 18th century. The farm buildings with stables form two side wings.
