The Longuay Monastery (Longum vadum) is a former Cistercian abbey in the commune of Aubepierre-sur-Aube in the Haute-Marne department , Grand Est region , in France , in the Aube valley .

history

The monastery, founded by Robert of Burgundy, the bishop of Langres , in 1102 for regular canons , joined the Cistercian order around 1150 as a direct subsidiary of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . The monastery had two granges (Hierce and Grand-Bois) and operate on the forging of La Chaume metalworking. During the French Revolution , the monastery was dissolved in 1791 and most of it was demolished.

Buildings and plant

Four groin-vaulted yokes of the south wing of the cloister , the warming room and part of the monk's hall have been preserved. The converse wing was converted into a two-story tithe barn and is considered one of the main works of Cistercian architecture. A castle was built on the monastery grounds in the 19th century.
