Lure Monastery (2008)

The Lure monastery in Saint-Étienne-les-Orgues ( Alpes-de-Haute-Provence ) in France belonged to the Chalaisian order from 1165 to 1318 , then to the cathedral chapter of Avignon until 1418 and was secularized in 1481. Today only the now restored church is left. The monastery is not to be confused with the Lure Benedictine abbey in Lure ( Haute-Saône department ). The monastery has been classified as a monument historique since 1980 .

history

Guigues von Revel, abbot of the Boscodon monastery , founded the Chalaisian monastery Notre-Dame de Lure in 1165 with the support of the Bishop of Sisteron 9 km north of Saint-Étienne-les-Orgues in the Lure Mountains at an altitude of 1200 m . Lure founded the Clausonne monastery in Le Saix in 1185 and the Clairecombe monastery (also: Clarescombes) in Ribiers in 1190 . The abbey was secularized in 1481 and fell into disrepair. In the 17th century the church was restored and a pilgrimage was organized. Since the French Revolution there has been renewed decline, but this has been held back since around 1978. The church has been a listed building since 1980.
