Chalaisians

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Chalaisians (also: Order of Chalais ) were a Roman Catholic male order of Benedictine - Cistercian character, which flourished mainly in southeastern France and existed from 1101 to 1408.

history

In 1101 Hugo von Grenoble, east of Voreppe, founded the Benedictine monastery Chalais , which was elevated to an abbey in 1124 and opened a priory in Laverq (today: Méolans-Revel ) in 1135 . In 1142, monks from Chalais took over the Boscodon monastery south of Crots , which founded the Prads-Faillefeu monastery in Prads-Haute-Bléone in 1144 and the Lure monastery north of Saint-Étienne-les-Orgues in 1160 . In 1148 they were given an order comparable to the Cistercian Carta Caritatis . This brought the Chalais Congregation into being, which expanded to Clausonne ( Le Saix ) in 1185 , Clairecombe ( Ribiers ) in 1190 , Valbonne in 1199 and Pierredon ( Saint-Rémy-de-Provence ) in 1205 . Over time, all Chalaisian monasteries passed into the hands of other orders. Chalais belonged to the Carthusians from 1303 , with which Boscodon took over the role of the mother monastery until it became Benedictine in 1408 and the order thus expired.
