history

The monastery consecrated to St. Michael was founded in 1141 by Gebhard von Roning. From 1141 to 1598 it was Augustinian canons' monastery, from 1616 to 1803 a priory of the Benedictine Abbey of Andechs , but was dissolved in 1803 in the course of secularization . Most of the complex has not been preserved.

In 1974 the monastery was repopulated by the Augustinian canons of the Windesheim congregation and was the seat of their general provost until 2016 . Since 1992 Paring is an autonomous provost . The convent of the monastery currently consists of 14 canons and one novice . The priests of the order provide ordinary and extraordinary or categorical pastoral care . The monastery buildings, which were expanded in the years 2000/01, have meanwhile reached their capacity limits again and will have to be enlarged further in the coming years.

The Latinist Karl Egger is buried in the cemetery of the Propstei , who played a key role in the revival of the Windesheim congregation of the Lateran canons .
