Sant'Agostino di Montalto Monastery , is a former Cistercian abbey in what is now Lazio , Italy .
location
The monastery was located in the municipality of Montalto di Castro in the province of Viterbo a few hundred meters across the river Fiora , next to the Via Aurelia , today in an estate of the Marchese Guglielmi called Sant'Agostino.
history
The name of the monastery indicates that there was initially an Augustinian settlement there. In 1234 the Cistercians sent a founding convention from the Tre Fontane monastery near Rome . The monastery thus belonged to the filiation of the Clairvaux Primary Abbey . In a bull by Pope Honorius III. from 1258, the monastery is still known as a subsidiary of Tre Fontane. It no longer appears in a list of the Cistercian monasteries in Lazio from 1373.
Plant and buildings
In one of the manor's buildings there is still the presbytery with two Romanesque windows and the apse of a small Romanesque church.
