The monastery of the Franciscan Sisters of Maria Stern is a listed monastery of Franciscan Terziarinnen , the Franciscan Sisters of Maria Stern , in the old town of Augsburg .

location

The Maria Stern Monastery is located between Sterngasse, which borders Elias-Holl-Platz to the east, and the Middle Lech . The Vordere Lech flows underground under the monastery.

history

The monastery was founded in 1258 by two Augsburg citizens' daughters. Master builder Johannes Holl , the father of Elias Holl , created the hll from 1574 to 1576. Monastery church consecrated to Anna and Elisabeth , the onion dome of which was widely distributed from Augsburg.

The monastery was dissolved in 1802 in the course of secularization in Bavaria . On November 1st, 1828, it was rebuilt by King Ludwig I of Bavaria and it still exists today. In the 19th century, the congregation of the Franciscan Sisters of Maria Stern established numerous subsidiaries in almost all parts of Bavaria, especially in Swabia and Lower Franconia, which are dedicated to teaching girls, nursing the sick, caring for the elderly, raising orphans, and especially preschool education in so-called Dedicated to children's detention centers.
