Vincent Knödl

Vinzenz Knödl OCist (born February 23, 1821 in Mureck ; † October 16, 1890 ) was the 46th abbot of the Rein Cistercian monastery in Styria .

Vinzenz Knödl attended the grammar school in Varaždin and entered the Rein Abbey on August 26, 1843 , where he took his religious vows on September 22, 1845 . He studied in Graz, was ordained a priest on July 26, 1847 and worked, among other things, as a monastery master. On February 18, 1861 he was appointed Episcopal Consistorial Councilor.

On August 8, 1861, Knödl was elected abbot of Rein Abbey. During his tenure he promoted the economy of the monastery as well as the arts and sciences. Furthermore, he arranged for the completion of the new parish church of Sankt Bartholomä and the restoration of the pilgrimage church of Maria Straßengel . On September 9, 1888 Knödl was appointed Commander of the Imperial and Royal Franz Joseph Order .
