Knall is a musician collective founded in Cologne in 2005. The purely improvised, experimental sound is difficult to compare - one attempt by the band to describe it is “improacidpsychedelicalienfunkspacerock”. The musical roots can be found in Krautrock , Psychedelic Rock , Stoner Rock , but also in funk and jazz .
Baal Brain and Dennis Gockel are also known from the projects Space Invaders and Weltraum , Christoph Geiger was a founding member of the hip-hop and crossover band Blackeyed Blonde .
Concerts
The band is considered to be rather shy of concerts. On the other hand, especially the early concerts with the singer, drummer and electronic tinkerer DOM in the Cologne locations Blue Shell and Fort X are considered "legendary". In 2014, Dirk Raupach from Ton Zonen Records became aware of Knall at the Psychedelic Network Festival in the Würzburg Club Cairo , which resulted in the band's first vinyl record, Knall, on this label. The Krautrock legend Ax Genrich (including Agitation Free , Guru Guru ) invited Knall to Würzburg again in 2015 to play the first concert of his planned series "Monsters of Krautrock" next to him and his band in Cairo . From the resulting recordings, the double LP Alienfunk was produced, which received a lot of attention in the scene. In March 2017, Knall played with her label colleagues Space Lords from Reutlingen and Love Machine from Düsseldorf at the first “Ton Zonen Label Night” on the occasion of the label's five-year existence . Here Thierry Miguet from Wah Wah TV produced video recordings of all three bands in cooperation with the light artist Peter Petersen.
