Blackeyed Blonde is a crossover band from Saarbrücken . The group describes their style as “crossover rap with funk and metal influences ”.

history

Early Years (1988-1994)

In 1988 Blackeyed Blonde was founded by Steve (drums) and Dr. Zarkov (bass) founded. The band name goes back to the title of the same name on the album Freaky Styley by Red Hot Chili Peppers . A year later, Tad (vocals) and Dazy Rock (Messika Guidon, turntables, vocals) and Taste (vocals) joined them. The band was completed by Wilma (keyboard) and Ben Hat (vocals).

On April 30, 1990 Blackeyed Blonde performed live for the first time in Saarbrücken . A year later they released their debut album "We Do Ya" on the Saarbrücken label HTR. Sista Race (guitar), previously with Microfish, joined the band. With him, BEB won the “Saar Rocky” prize endowed with DM 12,000 at the end of 1992. The band was able to draw attention across Germany for the first time with their second album “So What ?!”, the cover of which showed a pyramid of bare buttocks of the musicians.

In 1994 Wilma got out and H-Nes came along. In the summer of 1994, BEB played in Cologne at the “ Popkomm ” music fair in the opening act of the US hip-hop / rock band Boo-Yaa TRIBE. After the performance, they signed a contract with the BMG label Gun Records .

Masafagga and Do Ya Like That Shit (1995–1996)

On January 27, 1995, BEB presented their next album “Masafagga” in the Saarbrücken garage . Present was u. a. the music channel Viva , which showed the band in the show “WahWah” in a one-hour special. Patrick Morgan (Tell your Mother), who can also be heard on the album, was there as a guest singer. The “Masafagga” cover showed a vibrator from the “ Quelle ” catalog, which occasionally caused outrage. The album was placed in the German charts (number 76).

Boomerang was released as a single . BEB went on their first tour of Germany. They did part of it as support for US band 24-7 Spyz . At the end of the Masafagga tour, the band played on April 30, 1995 in Saarbrücken Heaven. After the tour, BEB were guests on Stefan Raab's program “ Vivasion ” (Viva).

Patrick Morgan left the band and was replaced by Mick. At the beginning of October 1995, BEB did a small tour with the additional guest singer Allen Wright ( Headcrash ). Shortly afterwards the production of the fourth CD began in the CAS studios in Schüren. On March 7, 1996, the release party for the CD “Do Ya Like That Shit” took place in the Saarbrücken Kulturfabrik . An event that was recorded by Viva . In April 1996, BEB were touring Germany together with the German crossover bands Schweisser , Farmer Boys and Thumb as part of the “Crossing All Over” festivals. At the same time, “Do Ya Like That Shit” rose to number 76 on the album charts.

Shakespeare and Dissolution (1997–1998)

In 1997, BEB took an unusual path. On behalf of the Saarbrücker Staatstheater they composed the music for a modern and eschatological implementation of the Shakespeare play Troilus and Cressida . This was performed in June and July in the Alte Feuerwache theater. The BEB musicians were integrated into the performance: either as actors or musicians. In the same year the EP "Liebe, Siege, Kriege" was released, with four songs from the play plus two remixes. In 1998 the band broke up in a dispute. Gun Records released BEB Best of in 1999 with two previously unreleased tracks from theater production.

Since 2011

In 2011, the band members overcame their internal conflicts that had led to the breakup and decided to make sound together again. In 2014 the band was back with their original line-up [Tad (vocals), Taste (vocals), Steve (drums), Zarkov (bass), Sistah (guitar)]. DJ SirCut joined the turntables as a new member . With lyrics mostly in German, the band produced the reunion album Bitches GEMA -frei in their own basement . In the sold out garage in Saarbrücken, the band gave a concert again on May 23, 2014 after 17 years. The video for the single Tief was published on July 31, 2015 on its own YouTube channel. The album Bitches was remastered by David Scheidt, which was released on December 16, 2016 under the name reBITCHed. A second edition was published in 2018 by the Saar indie label Barhill Records.

Under the motto Everything is GOOOD , Blackeyed Blonde performed a nationwide club tour in October 2018 with stops in Münster , Kamp-Lintfort , Cologne , Berlin and Wiesloch . During the tour, the regular cast was reinforced by Mono (vocals) and Kai Sonnhalter (guitar).
