Knockando ( Gaelic : Cnoc Cheannachd ) is a small village in the Scottish Council Area Moray . It lies on the banks of the Spey about 7 km west of Charlestown of Aberlour and 18 km south of Elgin .

Pictish stones ( Knockando 1 and 2 ) can be found in the churchyard of the Knockando Church, built in 1759 .

Knockando is located in the middle of the important Speyside whiskey region . With Knockando , Tamdhu and Cardhu there are three whiskey distilleries in Knockando. The Knockando distillery was the first whiskey distillery in Scotland to install electric lights.

The Great North of Scotland Railway operated a railway line between the Boat of Garten and Craigellachie , which served Knockando station. However, the line was abandoned in 1965. Knockando Station served as a visitor center for the Tamdhu Distillery for a while.
