Kō Shibasaki (also Kou ); Japanese 柴 咲 コ ウ , Shibasaki Kō ; * August 5, 1981 in Toshima , Tokyo as Yukie Yamamura ( 山村 幸 恵 , Yamamura Yukie ) is a Japanese actress and singer .

Career

Shibasaki was discovered at the age of 14 and has appeared on many television and commercials.

She also became known outside of Japan through the film Battle Royale (2000), in which she played the cold-hearted Mitsuko Souma . For her performance as Tsubaki Sakurai in the film Go , she won the Japanese Academy Award for Best Supporting Actress , the Hochi Movie Award and the Kinema Jumpō Prize . In the summer of 2007 she appeared as Osawa Fujiko , a budding geisha , in the comedy Maiko haaan !!! in Japanese cinemas.

In 2002 she started her singing career with the single Trust my feelings . However, she only made her breakthrough with her second single Tsuki no shizuku , which became one of the most successful J-Pop hits of 2003. At the moment she mainly appears as the singer of the duo KOH + together with the successful actor / singer-songwriter Masaharu Fukuyama .
