Kochkor-Ata ( Kyrgyz Кочкор-Ата ) is a city in the Kyrgyz region of Jalalabat , right on the border with Uzbekistan .
history
The city was founded in 1952 in what was then the Kyrgyz Soviet Socialist Republic to develop a nearby gas field. In 2003, Kochkor-Ata was granted city rights. The city is seeing increasing Chinese influence, including land acquisitions by Chinese companies.

economy
During the Soviet rule over the region, the city was known for its oil and gas reserves. Since the independence of Kyrgyzstan, these deposits have largely passed into the possession of Chinese business people. The local economy benefits from the city's location on important transport routes that connect the city with Bishkek in the northeast and Osh in the south, among others . The city's bazaar is the central trading center.
Sports
The Kyrgyz football club FC Neftchi Kochkor-Ata is based in the city. He is currently playing in the top league . The 5,000-spectator stadium is one of the most striking buildings in the city.
