history

The Koga company was founded in 1974 by Andries Gaastra, the son of the founder of the Batavus brand ; the name is a suitcase word from his family name and the maiden name of his wife, Kowallik. Koga initially only sold frames, from 1976 onwards complete bikes with frames from the renowned Japanese bicycle manufacturer Miyata Kōgyō KK (the gunsmith Eisuke Miyata had made the first Japanese bicycle with a diamond frame in 1892 ). Today the company develops and produces racing and touring bikes , trekking and mountain bikes , city and folding bikes as well as tandems . As the frame material are chromium - molybdenum - steel , aluminum and carbon fiber reinforced plastic used.

For all bicycles, the frame geometries and parts used are precisely adapted to the purpose. If the required components are not available on the market, we often work with suppliers to develop our own Koga parts. A feature that is often adapted is the frame tube thickness, which varies depending on the requirements. Koga only sells the bicycles through authorized dealers . Some of them have set up so-called Koga Quality Stores , of which there are three in Germany. The bicycles are mainly sold in the Netherlands, Germany, Belgium, Denmark and Switzerland. Other important export countries are Japan and South Korea.

The manufacturer supports several cycling teams in the Netherlands and Germany as a sponsor and supplier . u. a. the Koga Cycling Team .

Like the manufacturers Hercules , Batavus and Sparta and others, Koga BV belongs to the Dutch listed Accell Group. The total turnover of Accell was 2008 538 million euros.
