The Kogeler See is a lake near Kogel in the Mecklenburg Lake District in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania.

geography

The body of water is located in the north-west of the Kogel district, which belongs to the municipality of Fünfseen, between the Plauer See and the Müritz in the east of the Mecklenburg Lake District . The size of the water surface is 39.3 hectares, the mean water level is 90.8  m above sea level. NHN . The surrounding banks reach heights of over 100 meters above sea level. The lake is 1,700 meters long and around 270 meters wide and is surrounded by some old trees. A larger forest area connects to the north of the lake. There is a swimming area with a partly sandy beach and a large lawn for sunbathing right on site. The deepest part of the lake is about 13 meters.

There is a connecting ditch to the Hofsee near Satow. The mean water level of the Hofsee is about 50 cm below that of the Kogeler See. The ditch is very rare and since the water level of the lake is no longer artificially balanced, it is no longer filled with water. It served as overflow protection. Excess water, which was pumped into the lake by the pumping station of the sprinkler system, to compensate for the withdrawn water quantities, could first run into the Satower Hofsee and from there back into the Plauer See.

use

Bathing area

The bathing area was used by the adjoining school during the GDR era and then again from around 1998 for the swimming training of the pupils.

Fish farming

In the time of the GDR an intensive trout fish farming was carried out in the lake. As a result, the water quality was below average at that time. There was an increased bloom of algae in summer . A few dozen trout were able to escape from the nets and have settled in the lake. This was confirmed by anglers who caught a few specimens.

irrigation

Control work on the pumping station in 1988

At the time of intensive vegetable production in the region, the lake was used as a water reservoir for irrigating the fields. For this purpose, a pumping station was built on the southwest side at the beginning of the 1970s, which pumped the water onto the surrounding fields. A wild bathing area, which was very popular, was given up for this. The water was distributed to the irrigation systems through a pipe system. If the water level fell below a certain level, equalization water was pumped from the Plauer See into the Kogeler See.

The pumping station was demolished in the late 1990s. A wall made of granite gravel that delimits a small part of the lake, plastic pipes in the lake and the remains of the fence that surrounded the area are visible remains of the facility. Due to the high energy costs and the non-existent need for vegetables from the region, the operation of the intensive irrigation was no longer worthwhile. The operation of the plant was stopped, it then gradually fell into disrepair. Vandalism hit the buildings and furnishings. After the demolition, a smaller pumping system was built, but it was not used for long and only rarely.

On the west side of the lake ( Satower corner ) there is another, no longer used pump. It served for the service water supply of the adjacent LPG .
