The Replace Coal campaign (spelling: Coal erSeten!) Was initiated by JunepA and other individuals who work for climate justice . The activists have been organizing actions of civil disobedience against the mining and generation of electricity from lignite since 2017 and call for non-violent sit-ins against coal infrastructure. In the summer of 2018, around 350 people blocked the Lippendorf power plant . In 2017, significantly fewer people took part in the blockades on the access roads to the Neurath power plant . The activists are demanding a consistent coal phase-out and rapid structural change. Power generation from coal must be replaced immediately by renewable energies and consumption savings. The activists refer, among other things, to reports by the IPCC to underline the urgency of the demands. Climate justice must be implemented with a global perspective.

The sit-ins of coal replace 2017 on the access roads of the Neurath power plant in the Rhenish lignite mining area could be maintained for several hours. There were arrests when the police subsequently cleared the blockade. Some activists have been accused of violating the assembly law. Fines were imposed. The following year there was also a trial at the Grevenbroich District Court , in which two activists were convicted.

The sit-in was broken up by the police and some of the activists were taken into custody. The actions were directed against the coal- fired power generation of RWE Power AG and the activists, citing climate justice and climate protection , demanded the "immediate coal phase-out ".

Together with the Alliance All Villages Remain , replace blocked coal under the motto "Not a meter of coal!" For one day the construction work on Landstrasse 354n, also known as "Grubenrandstrasse". The construction of this road is "useless" and a "mockery of all those who are determined to stay in their villages". According to RWE, this road replaces a road near Keyenberg and Kuckum , which are to give way to the opencast mine .

Central German lignite district

The blockade of all entrances to the Lippendorf power plant on August 4, 2018, with around 350 people, was cleared by the police after about three hours at one of the entrances, in some cases with the use of immediate force. Some activists have been taken into custody. The action was also directed against the companies Mibrag and Leag , which replenished coal reserves in advance of the announced protests. The power plant did not have to be throttled, but the shift change was impaired by the sit-ins.
