A carbon track is a rail track , which is one carbon in particular the compound mine such as with the public railway network or direct customers thermal power plants , briquette , ironworks or coking is used. It is mostly owned by the affiliated mines; operation by the state is an exception.

Legally, coal railways are mostly classified as connecting railways, in some countries they are also under the supervision of the respective mining authorities as mine railways .

Are often used coal cars next to the removal of the coal from the mine in the reverse direction also for the transport of packing material to the mine or from waste or tailings or ash or FGD gypsum for landfill on dumps .
