Pierre Souvestre
Pierre Souvestre (born June 1, 1874 in Plomelin , Quimper , Finistère , Bretagne , France ; † February 26, 1914 ) was a French lawyer , journalist , writer , organizer of motor sport events and one of the first automobile historians. He is known as a co-author (with Marcel Allain ) of the saga about the fictional arch-villain and master criminal Fantômas .
Through his participation in the bodies that organized races, Souvestre knew many personalities in the emerging automotive industry. As early as 1907 he published La Histoire de l'Automobile, probably the first work on automobile history.
In 1909, when he was already a well-known figure in literary circles, he started the first novella, Le Rour, in collaboration with his assistant Allain . Investigator Germain Fuselier, who later appears again and again in the Fantômas series, already appears in this novella.
Later, in February 1911 began Allain and Souvestre, on request of the editor Arthème Fayard , Fantômas as a book series to produce. Fayard wanted to produce a monthly pulp magazine . The success was immediate and continued.
In 1914 Souvestre died of pulmonary congestion. After his death, Allain continued the Fantômas legend alone.
