The Kokthang is located in the Himalayas on the border between Nepal in the west and the Indian state of Sikkim in the east.
The mountain is located 16.8 km south of the eight-thousander Kangchenjunga . In the north, the Rathong La mountain pass separates the Kokthang from the 6,682 m high Rathong .
Ascent history
The first ascent of the Kokthang was achieved by an Indian army expedition (Major KS Rana, Captain KPS Ahluwalla and two Sherpas) on April 26, 1962. Since then, the mountain has been climbed several times.
