Comedy games Porcia
The Komödienspiele Porcia is a theater festival that takes place every summer in Spittal an der Drau in Carinthia ( Austria ).
history
In 1960 Annemarie Siller , Herbert Wochinz and Thomas Bernhard came to Spittal an der Drau. They found a place for the summer theater performances in the arcaded courtyard of Porcia Castle . A year later, almost the entire ensemble of the Vienna Theater am Fleischmarkt traveled to Spittal to open the founding season in the as yet unrenovated courtyard with the following comedies:
- The Comedy of Errors by Shakespeare
- The duped by Georges Feydeau
- No pepper for Czermak from HC Artmann
- Boubouroche by Georges Courteline
The ORF began broadcasting recordings of the comedy plays in 1964. The Komödienspiele Porcia are now one of the oldest summer plays in Austria and professionally produce an average of six theater plays every year from June to August.
In 2020 the event was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic and postponed to 2021.
