The Komax Holding AG (Komax Group) is a global technology company, focused on markets in the field of automation. The group employs around 2,000 people worldwide and offers sales and service support in over 60 countries through subsidiaries and independent agencies.

history

The company was founded in 1975 by Max Koch as the Komax engineering office, based on his name (Koch Max). In 1978 he converted the company from a sole proprietorship to a stock corporation . Expansion abroad began with the founding of Komax USA in 1981. In 1982 Komax introduced series production at the Dierikon site and in the same year manufactured the world's first electronically controlled fully automatic crimping machine.

From the first half of the 1990s, the company continued to expand abroad and established branches in Portugal , Germany , Singapore , Brazil , France , Morocco , China, Malaysia , India and Japan . In 1996 Max Koch sold the company to management under the direction of Leo Steiner. The following year the company was floated on the stock exchange by means of an IPO . In 2012, as part of its growth strategy, Komax took over the TSK Group and SLE quality engineering, both with headquarters in Germany, and MCM Cosmic in Japan. The acquisitions of the Austrian Thonauer Group, Germany-based Ondal Tape Processing and Kabatec as well as the asset deal with SLE Electronics USA followed in 2016. In 2017, Komax took over Assets from Practical Solution in Singapore and Shanghai and acquired Laselec in Toulouse, France. In 2019, Komax made an asset deal with the Application Tooling division of TE Connectivity and acquired the US company Artos Engineering.

Field of activity

Komax offers products in the field of wire processing and for testing cable harnesses. The focus is on processes such as measuring, cutting, stripping, contacting and banding cables, as well as fitting connector housings and testing cable sets. Standard models and customer-specific systems such as stripping machines and fully automatic crimping machines are supplemented with an extensive range of quality assurance modules and networking solutions for the safe and efficient production of wire harnesses . The main customers for Komax machines are in the automotive industry .

As a result of the acquisitions made in recent years, Komax has entered the market with five additional companies.

  • TSK Prüfsysteme GmbH: TSK develops and sells test systems and adaptation units for testing cable sets and other electrical-electronic assemblies and components in the automotive supplier industry. TSK was founded in 1983 in Porta Westfalica, Germany. Today the company operates worldwide with production and service locations.
  • Thonauer GmbH: The Thonauer Group was founded in Austria in 1988 and has its headquarters in Vienna . It has various branches in Eastern Europe . The main focus of her activity is trading in machines for wire processing, especially for the automotive, electrical and electronics industries. Another field of activity are machines for the automatic application of foamed seals or for automated electrical potting.
  • Kabatec GmbH & Co. KG: Kabatec, founded in 2008 in Burghaun , Germany, specializes in taping, bundling and assembling fastenings on cable harnesses. The core business includes the development and production of semi- and fully automatic machines for processing adhesive and non-adhesive tapes. Kabatec operates worldwide and primarily serves customers from the automotive supply industry.
  • Laselec SA: Laselec, headquartered in Toulouse , France , develops machines for stripping and marking cables using laser technology. Their portfolio also includes intelligent installation boards for cable harness production. Laselec's customers are mainly active in the aerospace industry. The company was founded in 2001 and has a branch in the USA.
  • Artos Engineering Company: Artos Engineering was founded in 1911 and is headquartered in Brookfield , Wisconsin (USA). The company develops and produces machines for wire processing and optimizes its standard machines with applications that meet specific customer needs. Artos Engineering mainly serves customers in the industrial applications , automotive and aerospace segments .
