The Naval Command System (KdoMFüSys) was a specialist naval command directly subordinate to the Naval Office . It was erected on July 3, 1967 in Sengwarden and moved to new buildings on February 1, 1968 on the site of the Heppenser Groden naval base . The background to the installation was the procurement of the class 103 guided missile destroyers Lütjens , Mölders and Rommel , as a programming center was required for these warships, which were equipped for the first time with computer-controlled guidance systems ( SATIR ) .

In the following decades, the KdoMFüSys made significant contributions to the development and usage support of the deployment systems of the newly arriving ship and boat classes. The command was headquartered on the grounds of the Heppenser Groden naval base in Wilhelmshaven. On October 1, 2012, it was incorporated into Department II (operational support / operational testing) of the newly established naval support command, with the technical systems remaining at their location.

tasks

Most recently, the main tasks were:

  • Specification of operational command systems (EFS) of the Navy in all phases of development and procurement,
  • Software maintenance and modification of EFS in use,
  • Creation and maintenance of parameter databases,
  • Development of electronic countermeasures for the floating units of the German Navy,
  • Support of networked training and implementation of interoperability tests by EFS in the national and international network,
  • Conducting the training of operators and system technicians for these systems.

Organization and staff

The KdoMFüSys was subordinate to the Naval Office and was divided into five specialist groups:

  • the specialist group ES - operational systems , whose task was the specification ( requirement engineering ) of operational command systems as well as software design and programming of some of these systems,
  • the specialist group EU - operational support , whose task was the maintenance of databases for parameterization and scaling of the operational systems (e.g. that of the frigate class F124 ),
  • the specialist group TAUES - tactical training, support and testing system network , charged with operating and networking the naval simulation environment,
  • the specialist group ST - system technology , which operated the work environments required for system development and the building services,
  • the marine system training group , which is subject to the admiral's professional development and training in the naval office , carried out the course-related training for maintenance personnel and operators of the operational management systems,

and a staff group with

  • Quality management
  • Controlling, as well
  • a staff working for the commander with the classic basic military leadership areas of personnel, organization, security and logistics.

A total of around 340 soldiers, civil servants and civilian employees were on duty in the KdoMFüsys.

Systems supported

Although the tasks of software development and programming were increasingly being outsourced to industry in connection with the reorganization of the armaments system of the Bundeswehr ( CPM ), the KdoMFüSys still made up the majority of the programming teams for the following systems:

  • SATIR ( S ystem for A uswertung T aktischer I nformation on R echnerschiffen), inserted on the frigate classes F122 and F123 ,
  • AGIS ( A utomatisches G efechts- I nformation s ystem) of the hydrofoils the class Gepard class ,
  • PALIS ( P assiv- A ktiv Li nk S ystem) of the mine-hunting boats class 333 and hollow rod steering boats class 352 (both converted from speed minesweeper class 343) and,
  • FORMASSK ( FORMA tierungshilfe S ee S Treit K rafts) of Frigate Kl. F122 and F123 ,
  • MHQ, the naval headquarters in Glücksburg,
  • Marine database.

The whereabouts of the tasks

As part of the realignment of the Bundeswehr, the command was dissolved on September 30, 2012 and assigned to the naval support command and the naval operation school:

The specialist groups "Operations Systems", "Operations Support" / "TAUES" and "System Technology" form - with tasks and structures adapted to the new framework conditions - three of the four specialist groups in "Department II Operations Support / Operations Testing" of the 2012 Marine Support Command (MUKdo). The fourth group of this department was formed from the Command for Troop Trials of the Navy (KdoTrVsuM) in Eckernförde, which was also dissolved on September 30, 2012 .

The teaching group was subordinated to the Bremerhaven-based Naval Operation School (MOS), with the teaching group remaining in Wilhelmshaven.
