The Marine Supply School ( MVS ) was the central training facility for the logistics of the German Navy in List on Sylt . It was finally closed on December 31, 2006. The logistics school of the Bundeswehr took over the catering service on October 1, 2006 in the premises of the MVS. As of October 1st, 2007, all operations on Sylt have been completed and discontinued. The barracks and civil buildings will be taken over by the Federal Property Administration and then sold to private investors. They planned to run a boarding school on the barracks grounds. The project was abandoned in mid-2012 due to a lack of funds. The municipality of List and the holding company are currently arguing in court as to whether the investors are permitted to build residential buildings instead.

Involvement and tasks

The MVS was the functional school of the supporting services within the school organization of the Navy . The term supporting services in the training of recruits, NCOs and Portepée NCOs includes:

Soldiers from all branches of the armed forces as well as civilian employees of the Bundeswehr were instructed in special courses . Every year around 650 recruits in basic military training and around 1,800 course participants from all grade groups were trained in specialist courses at the MVS . The commander of the MVS had 270 soldiers and civilian employees available to carry out the order .

The best cooks in the Bundeswehr were trained at the MVS. On land and on board, the quality of the food was famous. The school won several national and international canteen kitchen competitions and in 1972 supplied the sailors at the 1972 Summer Olympics in Kiel-Schilksee .

The school staff

The school staff reported directly to the commanding officer. It was divided into the following subject areas:

At the same level, the civilian troop administration was directly subordinate to the commander.

The teaching group A

Teaching group A had the following mandate:

  • the implementation of the military and technical basic training of the recruits in the application series 61 staff / personnel service, 62 catering, 63 material supply, 81 medical services
  • the military training for mate and boatman (e.g. VR 61 as accounting officer)
  • the training of officers of the troop service in logistics
  • the training of officers in the military technical service
  • the implementation of supplementary and special courses (essentially) for officers, NCOs and civil servants of the Bundeswehr in all areas of the supporting services.

The implementation of logistics and personnel processing in the navy cannot be carried out without modern and efficient data processing. Practical training in this area was therefore particularly important.

The training was carried out in inspections:

  • LogSBw LehrGrp B / VIII: Catering service
  • The crews, NCOs and officer candidates in the medical service of the Navy were trained in the 5th and 8th inspection at the Westerland location (in the area of the Naval Aviation Training Group ), and from 1967 also in the 6th inspection of the MVS in List. This later became the 7th inspection for the basic training and the 4th inspection for the other courses, such as the guest course, mate course and the Boostmann course, as well as other special courses for the medical service. There was also a branch of the 4th inspection in Wilhelmshaven in the Banter barracks. The guest course participants who did their training during the practical part in the Wilhelmshaven hospitals were housed in this outdoor area.

Teaching group training

The training group had to implement the training requirements that arose from the needs of the fleet . For this, the training group had to provide the necessary training instructions and the administrative and organizational requirements. The teaching group thus primarily had a supporting mandate. The training group commander was available to carry out this assignment :

  • the school office
  • the departments staff service, catering and logistics with department heads and military instructors
  • the exercise and training facilities
  • the data processing organization officer

The school office organized and coordinated the course processes and the deployment of the military instructors . It developed the MVS annual school plan and coordinated the occupancy of the training and exercise facilities. The exercise and training facilities were subordinate to the respective department head.
