Commission "Martial Arts and Martial Arts"
The "Martial Arts and Martial Arts" commission is a commission of the German Association for Sports Science (dvs) e. V., which deals in a problem-oriented manner with issues relating to the fields of martial arts and martial arts and organizes conferences on “Martial arts and martial arts in research and teaching” at regular intervals.
Emergence
The “Martial Arts and Martial Arts” commission of the German Association for Sports Science was initiated in 2010 by Peter Kuhn and Harald Lange. On the occasion of the 21st dvs university day in Halle (Saale) , the general assembly of the dvs on September 21, 2012 approved the motion to found a dvs commission “Martial Arts and Martial Arts” with a result of 131 votes in favor, 18 abstentions and 0 against . According to the dvs statutes § 3 (1), the “Martial Arts and Martial Arts” commission was in the process of being established until the 2013 Annual General Meeting and was officially set up on September 25, 2013 in Constance with no votes against and three abstentions.

The founding of the dvs commission “ Martial Arts and Martial Arts ” is derived from the fact that in Germany since the turn of the 19th and 20th centuries, a highly differentiated field of action “Martial arts and martial arts” has arisen from partly very old roots However, relevance within national sports science has only been partially recognized, systematically researched and monitored. In addition to the sports organized by the German Olympic Sports Confederation (DOSB), aikidō , archery , boxing , fencing , judo , ju-jutsu , karate , wrestling and taekwondo with around 550,000 members, there is a spectrum that ranges from taijiquan to mixed martial arts (MMA ) enough. The dvs commission “Martial Arts and Martial Arts” pursues the goal of systematically recording and working on the field of action and movement “Martial arts and martial arts” in its entire spectrum of sports science. At the organizational level, her work is therefore three-dimensional:
- Cooperation with dvs sections and experts from biomechanics, sports history, sports informatics, sports medicine, sports motor skills, sports economics, sports education, sports philosophy, sports psychology, sports sociology and training science
- Cooperation with DVS commissions and experts v. a. from sports health and gender research
- Networking with national and international scientists, martial artists and journalists , etc. a. the Martial Arts Studies Research Network, the International Martial Arts and Combat Sports Scientific Society, the Archives of Budo and the Revista de Artes Marciales Asiáticas.
To date, various research focuses have been established around the following topics:
- Service provision in competitive sports : training control, movement optimization , psychophysical stress, competition strategies, support concepts, sports medicine and movement science research approaches.
- Activity effects from a physiological or psychosocial point of view : Influence of activities on health-promoting moments, impact research re. social educational potential and influences on personal development. Sports medicine, training science and psychological research approaches.
- Basic research : Description of the heterogeneous field, recording of previous knowledge and understanding of descriptive parameters such as B. Motives for participation of active participants, demographic characteristics. Social science research approaches.
- Change of moments of movement culture : origin and development of styles, forms of sport and practices, interactions with ideological currents and social change, structure formation and institutionalization in the field, commercial activities and media staging, lines of discourse and moments of (self) transformation, more sociological and cultural studies research approaches.
- Design aspects of mediation contexts : Sports pedagogical research, which primarily focuses on questions about development support and didactics for sports lessons in schools and action concepts within the framework of self-protection and protection from others. Legal, philosophical, pedagogical-didactic and psychological research approaches.
Meetings
The dvs commission "Martial Arts and Martial Arts" promotes the exchange of sport science by organizing conferences on "Martial arts and martial arts in research and teaching" at current annual intervals together with sport science institutes and facilities.

At the conferences, selected contributions that have been assessed in advance by a scientific committee are presented in various formats (e.g. poster presentations, short lectures, knowledge café or practical workshops). In addition, there will be main lectures by invited experts from science and practice. All contributions are usually written down and published in conference proceedings.
