The competence center for electronic cataloging and publication processes in the humanities is a scientific institution at the University of Trier . The competence center carries out all the work steps necessary to create an EDP-based publication. This includes the retro-digitization of older works including reprinting up to the publication of new basic works including the IT infrastructure. Among other things, the data acquisition, the conversion of legacy data, the document analysis, the SGML-compliant labeling, the publication on CD-ROM, on the Internet or in books, the development of graphical user interfaces, the elaboration of networked structures, the support of search strategies and the Development of working environments, also for spatially distributed projects with several workplaces.

history

On April 1, 1998, the competence center “New Forms of Publication and Indexing Processes for Fundamental Humanities” was established at Trier University and funded until December 31, 1999 with funds from the Central Chapter 1516. On the initiative of the Department of Older German Philology at the University of Trier in conjunction with the Academy of Sciences and Literature , the application for the establishment of a competence center was drawn up and, together with various institutions and central facilities at and in the University of Trier, the Center for Scientific Electronic Publishing , the university library and the university computer center. Since July 1, 2000, this competence center has been expanded and institutionalized through the funding of the State of Rhineland-Palatinate from funds from the central chapter 1512 as a “competence center for electronic cataloging and publication processes in the humanities”. It will continue to be supported by the above-mentioned institutions.
