The Confederation of Dzików (Polish Konfederacja dzikowska ) was a Polish general federation at the time of the War of the Polish Succession to regain the Polish throne for Stanisław Leszczyński and to defend it against Russian and Saxon interventions.

It was closed on November 5, 1734 in Dzików near Tarnobrzeg at the instigation of the Polish electoral king Stanislaus I. Leszczyński . This was in view of the joint intervention of the Saxon army of the anti-king August III. and the Russian army fled to Königsberg (Prussia) .

Marshal of the Confederation became the Starost of Jasło , Adam Tarło. At the head of the Confederate army was the so-called regimental commander of the magnate Józef Potocki . On February 28, 1735 , the Confederation Generals took command of the Confederate forces.

background

The alliance treaty of the three black eagles , signed by Russia, Prussia and Austria in 1732, provided for cooperation in the implementation of a common candidate for the crown of the Polish Rzeczpospolita . After the break of the alliance between Saxony and France and the neutralization of Prussia, the parties decided to support the candidacy of the Saxon Elector Friedrich August II , son of Augustus the Strong.

In contrast, on September 12, 1733, 13,500 noble electors in Warsaw chose Stanisław Leszczyński as King of Poland in a free election.

The Confederation also engaged in active diplomatic activity, sending envoys to Sweden, France, Constantinople and Rome, including Adam Stanisław Krasiński . She also unsuccessfully asked for support for the peoples of Bohemia and Hungary and for the inhabitants of Silesia.

Confederate troops eventually tried to break through Greater Poland towards Saxony. However, they were defeated in many battles by the troops of Saxony and Russia.

Nests of resistance of the armed confederation of Dzików existed until 1736 in the Kurpie and in Podolia .
