Kongjian Yu

Kongjian Yu (* 1963 in Jinhua ) is a Chinese landscape architect , university professor at Peking University PKU and founder of the planning office Turenscape in Beijing .

Life

Kongjian Yu received his PhD from the Harvard Graduate School of Design in 1995 on "Security Patterns in Landscape Planning: With a Case in South China". He has been Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at Peking University since 1997 , as well as founder and dean of the School of Landscape Architecture at PKU, now the College of Architecture and Landscape Architecture . In 1998 he founded his internationally active and internationally recognized landscape architecture firm Turenscape with around 600 employees today. Kongjian Yu's work deals with tasks from architecture , landscape architecture and urban planning on all scales. He is visiting professor of landscape architecture in the Department of Landscape Architecture at Harvard Graduate School of Design. In his projects, Yu pursues the goal of rebuilding ecological infrastructures and thereby developing a new environmental aesthetic based on basic positions of environmental ethics .

Awards

Kongjian Yu's works won the World Architectural Festival Awards of Landscape in 2009 and 2010 , the ULI Global Award for Excellence in 2009, the ASLA award of Excellence in 2010 and 7 ASLA Honor Awards from the American Society of Landscape Architects . He received four Excellence on the Waterfront Awards , the National Gold Medal of Fine Arts of China in 2004, and he was a juror at the Aga Khan Award for Architecture in 2010 . In 2016, Yu was elected to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .
