Udo Weilacher (* 1963 in Kaiserslautern ) is a German landscape architect , university professor and author .

Life

UDO WEILACHER trained as a landscape gardener and studied from 1986 to 1993 landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich and sponsored by the Friedrich Ebert Foundation , at the California State Polytechnic University at Los Angeles. He graduated from the Technical University of Munich with a degree in landscape architecture in 1993 and has been working in the office of "Weilacher Landschaftsarchitekten" since 1995 in cooperation with the freelance landscape architect Rita Weilacher. After working as a research assistant at the University of Karlsruhe and the ETH Zurich from 1993 with Professor Dr. Dieter Kienast received his doctorate in 2001 from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich with distinction as "Dr. sc. ETH Zurich" . In 2002 he was appointed to the chair for landscape architecture and design at the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape at Leibniz University Hannover , where he established Germany's first junior professorship for the theory of contemporary landscape architecture. He headed the Faculty of Architecture and Landscape as Dean between 2006 and 2008 . Weilacher was appointed to the Technical University of Munich in April 2009 to succeed Professor Peter Latz as chair of landscape architecture and industrial landscape.

Research and Teaching

Weilacher has been researching the connection between landscape architecture and design , visual art and the history of garden art since 1993 and examines the development of current landscape architecture in Europe. This led to numerous publications and also to his election to the expert group of the Landart -Galerie Mechtenberg within the framework of the International Building Exhibition Emscher Park (IBA) between 1997 and 1999 as well as to his appointment as a member of the board of trustees of the Fritz Schumacher Prize of the Alfred Toepfer Foundation in Hamburg. Since 2007 he has been a cooperation partner for the Technical University of Munich in the international doctoral college "Raum Forschungslabor" , which he runs as an interdisciplinary graduate school together with professors from the ETH Zurich , the Vienna University of Technology , the HCU Hamburg , the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology and the University of Stuttgart .

Udo Weilacher is the author of numerous articles and relevant specialist books on the above-mentioned topics and between 1999 and 2003 wrote regularly about current landscape architecture in the monthly NZZ Folio of the Neue Zürcher Zeitung . He is a member of the German Werkbund (DWB), the Association of German Landscape Architects (bdla) and the German Society for Garden Art and Landscape Culture eV (DGGL). As a garden and landscape architect , he has been a member of the Chamber of Architects (Baden-Württemberg, Lower Saxony, Bavaria) since 1995 and participates in various design advisory boards in German cities and as a specialist in numerous international competition and appraisal procedures.
