Life
Peter Latz grew up as the eldest of eight children of the Saarwellingen architect Heinrich Latz and his wife Marianne (née Glückert) in Saarland . After graduating from high school, he studied landscape architecture at the Technical University of Munich and, after graduating in 1964, went through the four-year advanced training program initiated by Professor Erich Kühn at the Institute for Urban Development and Regional Planning at RWTH Aachen University , which was coupled with intensive practical work on urban renewal projects - mainly in the Ruhr area was. In 1968 Peter Latz and his wife Anneliese founded the office for landscape architecture in Aachen and in partnership with Herbert Kuske in Saarbrücken . In 1970 he founded the SLS office for interdisciplinary urban planning , system planning and landscape planning with the architect Conny Schmitz, Dillingen, and headed it until 1976. Peter Latz was appointed professor at the Kassel University in 1973 , the office followed a year later. He built his first house in Kassel and combined it with a long-term research project on passive solar energy and self-sufficiency . In 1983 he followed a call to the Technical University of Munich- Weihenstephan, the main office was relocated to the new place of work five years later. The office has been located in Ampertshausen near Kranzberg since 1991 . There, the landscape architect converted a 100-year-old agricultural property into a horticultural experimental field and ecological demonstration object.
The Duisburg-Nord landscape park is one of the best-known projects realized by Peter Latz , with which he achieved international renown (see awards) as a pioneer of the landscape-architectural conversion of disused industrial sites.
Teaching
Peter Latz began his teaching activity in 1968 as a lecturer at the Limburgse Akademie voor Bouwkunst (Limburger Baukunstakademie) in Maastricht and supervised projects in an architectural training that was carried out in close connection with practice. In 1973 he became a full professor for landscape architecture at the University of Kassel and, together with his colleagues, carried out applied research for alternative building technologies in open space and architecture. In 1983 he was appointed to the chair for landscape architecture and planning at the Technical University of Munich- Weihenstephan, which he left in spring 2008 as emeritus.
