Volker Kottkamp

Volker Kottkamp (born December 8, 1943 in Freckenhorst (Westphalia) ) worked for ARD until 2008 as a reporter, presenter and commentator on football world championships, the Olympic Games, athletics championships and the Tour de France . He is best known to television viewers as the “tennis voice” and the long-time presenter of the sports show .

education

Kottkamp grew up in Bremen and wrote his first football reports for Radio Bremen as a schoolboy . After school, he studied political science at the Free University of Berlin , and financed his studies with reports for the RIAS .

Career

After completing his studies, Kottkamp started at Radio Bremen in 1965. In 1971 he moved to Baden-Baden as a sports reporter for Südwestfunk . He reported on radio and television and moderated, among other things, the programs Sportschau , Sport under the magnifying glass and Sport im third . From December 1, 1990 to April 30, 1997, Kottkamp was the SWF sports director and responsible for the broadcaster's sports coverage . He was also the ARD team manager at the Olympic Games and the Paralympics in Athens in 2004, ARD team manager for the European Football Championship in Austria and Switzerland in 2008 and on duty at the 2008 Olympic Games. After more than 40 years of professional activity, Volker resigned Kottkamp retired at the end of 2008.

He was best known for his reporting on the Wimbledon winners Steffi Graf , Boris Becker and Michael Stich . He was therefore called "Mister Tennis".

Private life

Kottkamp is a father of two, his son Steffen was program manager of KiKA from 2008 to 2012 . Volker Kottkamp names stamp collecting as a hobby. He also likes to travel to El Hierro , the smallest Canary Island.
