The Congregation of the Daughters of the Heart of Jesus ( French Société des Filles du Sacré Cœur , Dutch Dochters van het Heilig Hart van Jezus ) is a community of contemplative nuns .

history

The congregation was founded by Marie de Jésus Deluil-Martiny in the autumn of 1872 in Berchem near Antwerp . The hallmark of the new congregation was the special veneration of the Heart of Jesus and the sacrament of the altar . On 2 February 1876, the first Constitutions were Cardinal - Archbishop Victor-Augustin-Isidore Dechamps approved. On August 17, 1878, the sisters were entrusted with the newly built Sacred Heart Basilica in Antwerp-Berchem . There the first sisters of the congregation took their religious vows on August 22, 1878 . Mother Marie de Jésus Deluil-Martiny was able to found several houses for her congregation in the following years. On Ash Wednesday in 1884, she was murdered by a French anarchist in the house of the Congregation in La Servianne.

On February 25, 1888, the congregation received a decretum laudis . It was finally confirmed on February 2, 1902.

Religious life

The sisters cultivate Eucharistic adoration and live in strict enclosure . There are currently branches in Rome (parent company), Venice , Hall in Tirol , Lasinja (a new establishment in 2007) and Schwyz . In 2013 the branch in Berchem-Antwerp , where the order was founded, was closed.

The costume is white with cingulate and scapular (which is why they are popularly called "white doves"). The hearts of Jesus and Mary are embroidered in a crown of thorns on the scapular.
