The Konrad Adenauer Bridge , shortly Adenauer bridge (so the bridge plate) originally Ring bridge called that combines in Baden-Wuerttemberg located Ulm on the border forming Danube away with that in Bavaria located in Neu-Ulm . It is part of the Ulm Bismarckring and the Neu-Ulm Ringstrasse and leads the B 10 and B 28 over the Danube. The southern railway line ( Ulm – Friedrichshafen railway line ) runs under the bridge along the northern bank of the Danube.

description

The bridge is 149.80 m long and 24.20 m wide. It originally had four lanes, a median, and sidewalks and cycle paths on both sides. Because of the increasing traffic, it was converted to six lanes in 1972, with a concrete guide wall in the middle and narrow bike paths on the sides.

The bridge designed by Ulrich Finsterwalder and built in just ten months in 1954 was one of the first prestressed concrete bridges to be cantilevered . She has two parallel haunched girders on two pillars with spans m of 38.15 + 78.00 + 33.65. It was built first from one side, then from the other side up to the middle of the field. The cantilever arms were then concreted together, creating a hingeless frame with brackets. The floor slabs of the hollow boxes are broken up in the middle of the field to form a diamond-shaped network.

Planned new building

The Adenauerbrücke is no longer able to withstand the stresses caused by increased traffic and the reconstruction to six lanes. In an investigation in 2012, its condition was rated as critical with a grade of 3.4 and a new building was recommended.

In the discussions, the question of who would have to bear the costs of building this Baden-Württemberg-Bavarian bridge played an important role. The cities of Ulm and Neu-Ulm had built the bridge together, the costs borne by the Federal Republic. While in Bavaria the construction burden remained with the federal government, represented by the Bavarian road construction administration in Krumbach , it was transferred to the city of Ulm on the Baden-Württemberg side. The question of whether this also applied to the cost of a new building was postponed to a later date in 1987. At the end of 2017, the federal government announced that it would take over the construction load for the Adenauerbrücke.

The state building authority Krumbach put the technical planning for the construction of the bridge out to tender in November 2018. They hope to have a plan in a year, which could be discussed with the local authorities and all stakeholders, one that in two to three years, the plan approval process could take in order to get the planning permission for the new bridge. The building authority pointed out that the new building was the least part of the task. More important is how the construction works and how the traffic management should be regulated during the construction period, which should not interfere with the renovation of the Gänstorbrücke .
