Konrad Bachmann (literary scholar)

Konrad Bachmann (born October 23, 1572 in Melsungen , † April 27, 1646 in Marburg ) was a German literary scholar , historian and librarian .

Life

The son of the citizen Hermann Bachmann initially attended the school in his hometown, then the schools in Kassel and Hersfeld . In 1591 he began studying philosophy at the University of Marburg , where he obtained a baccalaureate in 1593 and the degree of master's degree in philosophical sciences in 1596 . In 1597 he became tutor of the children of the Giessen superintendent Jeremias Vietor (1556-1609).

Through contact with Vietor, he also got a school teaching position in Giessen. In 1605 he became a teacher at the pedagogy of the University of Giessen and in the following year professor of poetics and history at this university. As a professor, he was also given the post of librarian at the Giessen University. Since the Giessen University of Applied Sciences was relocated to Marburg in 1625, he moved to the same position where he worked until the end of his life.

family

In 1599 he married Marie Melchior († July 30, 1637 in Frankfurt am Main), daughter of the manager of Grossen-Linden Hartmann Melchior. From this marriage there are three daughters and one son.
