Konrad I. von Salzwedel
Konrad I. von Salzwedel (* around 1130; † 1186 ) was Bishop of Pomerania from 1161 to 1186 . Under him the Pomeranian diocese took its seat in Cammin .
Konrad I was the third of five sons of the nobleman Friedrich von Salzwedel, who was not officially confirmed . His brother Volrad I. von Salzwedel, who later became Count von Dannenberg , made a positive effort to be elected Bishop of Pomerania, as suggested by a document from Pope Viktor IV dated March 2, 1160, in which he confirmed the gifts of Volrad I. .
In 1160 Konrad I was mentioned as Conradus de Saltwidele in a certificate of Albrecht the Bear issued in Havelberg among the witnesses. In 1161 he was called to Wollin as Bishop of Pomerania .
He was after Adalbert von Pommern (term of office 1140–1161), a companion of Bishop Otto von Bamberg , the second bishop in Pomerania.
At times, however, the bishop had to move from Wollin to the Grobe monastery , as there was no proper bishopric in Wollin, but that was the point of attack of the Archdiocese of Magdeburg , which repeatedly demanded claims to the diocese of Pomerania. In 1175, however, the Pomeranian Dukes established the cathedral chapter and district in Kammin and furnished it with all rights, freedoms and income.
In 1176 Conrad I then moved into the new bishopric. The seat was chosen because the Danes attacked and partly destroyed Wollin several times during that time.
