Konrad J. Kuhn

Konrad J. Kuhn (born October 1978 ) is a Swiss cultural anthropologist / European ethnologist , cultural scientist , folklorist and historian . He researches and teaches at the University of Innsbruck.

Life

Konrad Kuhn studied general history , folklore and Swiss history in Zurich . After obtaining his licentiate in 2005, he worked as a lecturer / associated researcher at the Research Center for Social and Economic History at the University of Zurich . In 2010 he worked with Jakob Tanner at the University of Zurich with a political cultural history in development solidarity. The Third World Movement in Switzerland between Criticism and Politics 1975-1992 doctorate (Chronos-Verlag, Zurich 2011). In spring 2019 he received his habilitation at the University of Basel (venia docendi in cultural anthropology) and was appointed private lecturer.

From 2009 to 2015 he was a lecturer at the University of Zurich. From 2012 to 2017 he was a research assistant at the Department of Cultural Studies and European Ethnology at the University of Basel . From March 2017, Konrad Kuhn was university assistant (postdoc) at the Institute for History and European Ethnology at the University of Innsbruck , from September 2019 on a career position, since April 2020 he has been assistant professor for European ethnology. In the summer semester of 2020, he will hold a professorship for empirical cultural studies (EKW) at the Ludwig-Uhland-Institut at the University of Tübingen.

Konrad Kuhn researches everyday practices and negotiation processes in Alpine urbanity. A current research project deals with the knowledge, practices and politics of “folk dance” in Tyrol. In addition, he deals with wooden masks in the Alpine region and with do-it-yourself practices. His main research interests include the history of knowledge in the discipline of folklore / cultural studies from a European perspective, ritual and custom research and the popular culture of history and remembrance.

Konrad Kuhn is editor (with Sabine Eggmann) of the scientific journal Swiss Archives for Folklore / Archives suisses des traditions populaires (SAVk / ASTP) . He is also co-editor of bricolage.
