Konrad Schmidt (born May 27, 1926 in Döbeln ; † 1995 ) was a German writer and Germanist in the GDR.

biography

Konrad Schmidt is best known through travel literature. He also wrote scripts for television plays.

Since 1951 he was with the writer and literary scholar Marianne Schmidt , b. Long (* 1929) married. The marriage has two sons.

From his list of publications it can be seen that Schmidt mainly wrote about trips to parts of the world that normal GDR citizens could not reach: Austria, the Middle East, Cyprus. His works, especially his two books on Rügen, have been well researched in terms of historical, literary, economic or even technological references and are still very readable today.
