Konrad Zucker
Konrad Zucker (born December 7, 1893 in Hanover , † August 31, 1978 in Heidelberg ) was a German neurologist , psychiatrist and university professor .
Life
Sugar holds a degree in medicine and in 1922 at the University of Goettingen to the Dr. med. PhD .
He then worked as an assistant at the University of Greifswald to Professor Edmund Robert Forster , who was also the director of the psychiatry and mental hospital there. As part of experimental psychopathological research, Zucker and his colleague Julius Zador (* 1901) first carried out self- experiments with mescaline , then carried out these experiments on psychiatric patients and published the results in medical journals. In February 1928, Zucker received his habilitation .
After the National Socialist seizure of power in 1933, Zucker became assistant and senior physician at the Heidelberg University Clinic under Carl Schneider . From 1936 sugar was associate professor for psychiatry at the University of Heidelberg . Together with Schneider, Zucker did research on “ child euthanasia ” from 1938 to 1943 and was thus deeply involved in the Nazi euthanasia program . In addition to his professorship, he briefly took over the management of the Maria Anna Home in Pirna at the end of 1938 . Zucker was also a judge at the Hereditary Health Supreme Court in Dresden . From May 8, 1940 he was a T4 expert (and thus one of the professors listed for the selection of patients to be murdered).
During the Second World War , Zucker took on the role of advisory military psychiatrist in Wehrkreis VII (Heidelberg).
After the end of the war he was dismissed from the professorship and found a job at the pension office in Heidelberg. Zucker was the author of several books and specialist articles.
