Konrad von Egloffstein

Konrad von Egloffstein was German master from 1396 to 1416 († October 2, 1416 in Nuremberg ). The Deutschmeister was the Landmeister of the Teutonic Order in Germany.

origin

Konrad von Egloffstein comes from the Franconian noble family of the von Egloffstein . His parents are Otto von Egloffstein and Osanna, née von Hirschberg . His brother Johann I von Egloffstein was bishop of Würzburg (1400-1411), his brother Hartung Bamberg canon , according to the Würzburg bishop's chronicle by Lorenz Fries he is said to have had another brother named Dietrich.

Act

From 1390 to 1392 he was Commander of the Teutonic Order in Nuremberg . In 1396 he was Landkomtur of the Deutschordensballei Franconia . Since Konrad von Egloffstein, Horneck Castle (founded in 1254/58) on the Neckar has developed into the permanent residence of the German Masters. As a German master, he was confidante and privy councilor of King Ruprecht and took part in his Rome train in 1401 . Ruprecht stayed several times in the domain of the German master in Mergentheim near the seat of the German master at Horneck Castle.

Battle of Tannenberg

After the defeat of the Teutonic Order in the Battle of Tannenberg in 1410, his brother Johann traveled to Prussia and took part in the peace negotiations between the Order and the Polish King Władysław II Jagiełło . Konrad and Johann are then in Thorn among the authorized representatives of the Teutonic Order who signed the First Peace of Thorn .

As a reward for his military service, Konrad received the city of Domnau as a fief. He built a new castle on an island in the river.

Konrad died in Nuremberg in 1416, where his epitaph is in the Jakobskirche .
