Konstantinos A. Doxiadis

Konstantinos Apostolos Doxiadis ( Greek Κωνσταντίνος Δοξιάδης , born May 14, 1913 in Stenimachos ; † June 28, 1975 in Athens ) was a Greek architect and urban planner of the modern age. He became known as the main architect of the Pakistani capital Islamabad and the city of Rawalpindi . He later turned to architectural theory. The Doxiadis Associates office still exists today.

Life

Doxiadis graduated from the Technical University of Athens in 1935 and received his doctorate a year later from the Technical University of Berlin . In 1936 he became an urban planner for the city of Athens , and from 1940 to 1945 he worked as an urban planner in the Ministry of Construction. From 1945 he was the head of various development programs. He started his own business in 1951 with Doxiadis Associates . He later became a professor at Oxford.

After contracting amyotrophic lateral sclerosis , he worked extensively on this incurable disease to support researchers.
